- Nope. AServe could equally well be called "AWS-Commerce/2.0", as the
- server proper is identical to AWS/2.0. There are no differences in the
- networking software.

- Yes. Me. You can't.

- There are reasons other than the server for that. See below.

-
- The catch is, you have no idea when the server is busy, other than the
- fact that you're having problems with it. There are other things that
- could cause that problem - for instance, every piece of network
- hardware between it and you.
-
- Every test I try indicates that it's not the server; if I can't get to
- the server, either it's DOA (that's the price of running AmigaDOS) or
- the network between the two sites is hosed. Unfortunately, I can't
- test a european link.
-
- You can test the link, though. If www.omnipresence.com is being wierd,
- try looking at www.idiom.com, ftp.omnipresence.com, and www.phone.net.
- The first of these is a different server that is plugged into the same
- FR line at the ISP. Any problems that are shared between the two are
- liable to be outside of our respective LANs. The second is a different
- machine on the same LAN. The last is a second virtual server (with a
- different process) running on the same machine.
-
- The solution for the network delay is to up the timeout by something
- like an order of magnitude. This has the rather unfortunate side
- effect of raising the maximum memory usage by roughly the same amount.
- Unless someone is willing to donate either a properly configured
- machine or Zorro III ram card, that's not going to happen anytime
- soon.
-
- The solution for IBrowse is for Stefan to start putting the thing on
- the FTP server, as there are lots of wins for doing that besides this
- one. European users - who seem to be the ones having problems -
- should use the link to Stefans machine in Europe [Note that I can't
- get to it at all - the network between here and there is hosed...] at
- http://athena.df.lth.se/ibrowse/ instead of trying to fetch the data
- from the US west coast.
-
- One of the AServe beta testers is supposedly working on a European
- mirror for www.omnipresence.com. I haven't heard back from them
- recently, though.
